We have three teams of robot developers this year , identified as TAMIYA 1, TAMIYA 2 and VEX 1 (reflecting the robot platforms used to construct each robot). The platform used by each team is commensurate with experience, TAMIYA being the entry level platform, and VEX being the platform for more experienced competitors. All three teams are attempting to design and produce a robot that meets the specifications for the 2015 Science Olympiad Robo-Cross competition.
The first of our teams this year is Dominic and Michael (TAMIYA 1) who are attempting to redesign the Tamiya robot from last year so that it will meet the specifications of a 28 cm cube in the "starting position" that caused us problems last year. Our second team is Alex and Graham (TAMIYA 2) who are planning to use all available spare parts to create a robot of their own design with an improved claw. Our third team is made up of Charlie, Art and Jaxon (VEX 1) who are trying out the more advanced VEX robot platform.
Each of our teams is creating a robot of their own design, and it is our intention that we will have internal competitions according to te SciOly regulations to identify that robot team that scores best in this event. The team with the best score in our internal competitions will be offered the opportunity to compete fro our school at the Regional Science Olympiad in March. If the winning team is not able to compete, the second or third place teams will be offered the opportunity to represent our school at the Regional Science Olympiad competition.
