Science 8 Mini Lessons
Mini Lesson #4: Oct 24, 2017 - The Role of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources
Hannah Schauer, a biologist from the Michigan DNR, visited our 7th and 8th grade students to help us better understand how the DNR protects our natural resources. Her presentation was focused on the types of data DNR scientists study to help make management decisions. She explained that wildlife studies, hunter surveys, weather and climate, disease monitoring, human interactions and habitat preservation were all important in monitoring and protecting wildlife populations.
Our students took notes during her presentation, investigated the pelts and skulls she brought with her, asked questions, and then wrote about the DNR's role in Michigan.
We appreciate the willife posters and game for our classroom, and the stickers and bookmarks Hannah left to share with our students. We also appreciate the many links to information on the internet that she shared with us so that our students could study interesting topics in greater detail.
Ask your 7th or 8th grader about their short visit with Hannah!
